Out of Work? Try this. It Works!!!!

There is actually a book called It Works: The Famous Little Red Book That Makes Your Dreams Come True. This is such a tiny book that it shouldn’t take you more than ten minutes to read it. However, to apply the principles to your wishes, goals, or dreams, may take some time. I’ve used these techniques successfully twice in my life and currently I find myself using the principles again. Thought I share with you folks.

Although anyone believing in the techniques will benefit from the exercises, people who are into Law of Attraction, affirmations, spiritual laws, etc., may connect with them better.

The speed of manifestations depends on one’s belief just like anything else.

The principles are very simple. You make a list of something you want and write and read it three times daily: morning, midday, and evening.

The book doesn’t ask you to do anything else, but when I tried the techniques for getting a job, I was actively looking for jobs, applying daily, brushing up on my skills from free videos and lessons online. Basically, I did everything I normally do to find a job and be ready for it. Try whichever way you like.

Let me tell you how I did mine.

The first time I used it was toward the end of 2008. I think it was early-December. I was in a contract that would end by the first week of January, 2009. I updated my resume online and started applying for positions and heard back from no one. As I recall, the job market wasn’t too good for an IT technical writer in Southern California.

My first list looked something like:

Make sure to date your daily list.

I am happy and thankful that—

  1. My new, ideal job is signed and sealed by January 7, 2009.
  2. It pays $xxxxxx or better.
  3. It uses my existing skills and allows me to learn more.
  4. The job is located within ten miles from my residence (For California, this is good.)
  5. I love working with my team.
  6. My manager is great to work with who gives me new challenges, but allows me to come up to them.

——————-

Okay, you get the idea and sky is the limit. Write down what will please you.

I would write the first list in the morning, then I would find myself revising it by noon, and then in the evening again. You don’t have to revise too many times in the course of a day if your list looks satisfactory. I found that the revisions gave me the momentum I needed.

I was getting really concerned when I didn’t hear back from anyone by the last week of December. On December 29, 2008, I got a call from a recruiter. I left my desk and walked in to the parking lot and spoke to him for a few minutes. He reminded me that I’d applied for a position a while back (I’d forgotten about already) and now he wanted to know if I were still interested.

What happened was that they’d hired someone but now couldn’t locate the person for two weeks. Later I learned that the person got a better offer. Seemed like it was meant for me.

The recruiter told me that the hiring manager, who was an IT Director for a major company in Irvine, was a friend of his. Meaning if I wanted the job still, I could get an immediate interview. The phone interview was set for lunch time on December 30 followed by an in-person interview on December 31st. When I told the hiring manager that I was scheduled to leave town for a New Year’s Eve event in the late morning, he offered to interview me as early in the morning I wanted. Mind you, I was desperate for a job and this was the only one on the horizon. And I was setting my own time? Both interviews were extremely easy that made me feel like ‘Too good to be true.” I got the job and didn’t lose more than seven days and I worked for that company for the next 3.5 years (cap for a contractor).

What did I get?

  • Money was on the ‘better’ side once I got a raise after my first six-month term.
  • The company was located no more than seven miles from my home. I didn’t have to take the freeway.
  • I learned a lot about new technologies and survived many challenges.
  • I felt a great sense of accomplishment.
  • My already depleting bank account saw a sunrise.

I used the techniques again end of last year and got a short contract. The money was good, but the commute wasn’t. The job was okay, but the people weren’t. I was grateful just the same to even get a job. Later I realized that my mindset wasn’t all that positive when I was trying the principles. So the universe threw me a mediocre result. I think if you can’t beat the feeling of desperation, the results can be delayed and not to your satisfaction.

Best of luck to you all.
